Superblue is a new experiential art space spreading across 30,000 square feet of flexible installation space in the Allapattah neighborhood of Miami and it dedicates to the work of artists who are pushing the boundaries of art through large-scale, shared immersive experiences.
We spoke with Shantelle Rodriguez, director of Superblue’s Miami Experiential Art Center, who shared her view on immersive art, accessibility and working closely with community partners and artists to develop a cultural hub deeply rooted in and integrated with the community.

Colectivo Barrio Colombia: building new perspectives through art
A 10-minute drive from El Poblado, the neighborhood of Barrio Colombia is helping to redefine the image of the city, using art to catalyze communities and attract young people to the creative world. Giulietta, Bianca and I visited them during a warm February morning and ended up staying for three hours, drinking coffee and chatting about art, human-environment relationships and the importance of nurturing imagination to drive social change.

Alejandro Tobón (Medellín, Colombia, 1978)

Alejandro has always been interested in what the search for our own place can mean. In this sense, by observing what he recognizes as territory, he questions how this, being a common natural good, acquires the sense of a product that is negotiated in a fragmented and systematic way. The possibilities within artistic practices allow Alejandro to use drawing, interdisciplinary dialogues, traditional manufacturing techniques, software and technologies to relate these ideas and configure installation objects that he builds with reusable materials such as wood, iron and polymers. The art makes use of both geometric and natural forms, with constructive principles of craftsmanship, architecture and industry. Shapes and surfaces interfere with places, occupying them and sometimes inviting the viewer to interact with them, generating effects and paths that show the human presence on the territory.
